Bridal Buzz: A Fake Cake?

Most brides are on strict budgets. If you are one of those brides, listen up! The average cost of a wedding cake can be anywhere between $300 to $800 (and sometimes more) depending on how much cake you need, the decoration involved, and of course a delivery charge. At a recent wedding, the bride and groom saved A LOT of money by doing something a little different. Instead of having a 3 tiered real cake, they had a baker make them one small layer for the top and have two completely fake layers on the bottom! For their guests they had sheet cakes made or “kitchen cakes” in the back kitchen that were cut by caterers for all to enjoy! This way, they saved money and had beautiful pictures at the same time.

You be the judge . . .can you tell the cake is fake?

I guess you can say, the newlyweds had their cake and ate it too!

Congratulations Kristina & Brian! We love you and thanks for the great cake tip!

Naughty or Nice?

Sarah & Derek Hodges

On every bride’s wedding day, there comes a pivotal moment during the cake cutting ceremony: to be naughty to the groom by shoving cake in his face? or be nice and gently feed it to your new husband? The truth is, each couple is different and it depends on the mood. Here are a few things to keep in mind before determining what type of “feeding” you should give each other:

1. Are you a playful couple or are you more serious?

Some bride and grooms are naturally jokesters and love the moment they get to opportunity to ram each other’s faces with cake. Others like to savor the moment by making it more romantic by being sweet and gently feeding each other.

2. How angry would you get as the bride if you did get a fistful of cake? Would you be upset if your make-up and dress were smudged?

If your answer is “no” then you are a contender for a cake smashing. After all, you can always touch up your make-up and have your dress cleaned afterwards. Otherwise, you may want the groom to be nice to you.

3. What type of pictures do you want to have?

The cake cutting ceremony is definitely a moment that will be captured on film. Do you mind having cake all over your face? or would you rather stay clean?

Want the best of both worlds? At a wedding a few years ago, the bride and groom fed each other nicely, but the bride dabbed icing on the groom’s nose as playful gesture. Whatever choice you make, make sure you discuss it with the groom before hand if you DO NOT want to get smothered with cake. If you want it to be unpredictable, don’t mention the cake ceremony and just see what happens! It’s more fun that way after all! Happy cake cutting!
