How to Narrow Down to “The Dress”

Gavin Micheals 750 by 2Be BridalWe’ve recently received a lot of brides that look great in almost all the dresses they’ve tried on.  This dilemma begs the question: How does a bride choose the right bridal gown when every one of them looks great?  Everyone always says “You’ll know when it’s the one,” but is this true?  Does that really happen?

Here are some ways to narrow down to the perfect dress:

1. Take into consideration the formality and feel you want your wedding to have.  If your choice is between an elaborate gown, or something simple think about what tone you want to set for your wedding.

2. What have you always envisioned yourself looking like when you walk down the aisle?  Do you look like a princess, a greek goddess, or something in between?  Chances are, you’ll stick with the vision you’ve had the longest.

3. What time of day is your wedding ceremony going to be?  If it’s an evening wedding, you may want to choose something more formal, while during the day maybe something a little more casual.

4. What time of year is your wedding?  Believe it or not, asking this question does help!  If you’re getting married in July or August, you may not want to pick the heaviest dress made of satin since temperature is a factor.  You may want to choose a lighter weight dress to be more comfortable.  Heavier fabrics tend to be better for winter months instead or if you’re getting married in air conditioning.

5.  Are you getting married inside or outside?  Sometimes, a more elaborate dress can snag or can get damaged more easily if the ceremony is outside.  Brides can definitely pull off a fuller, heavier dress if the wedding location is in a church or an inside venue.

6.  What are your guests expecting you to wear?  Many brides like to surprise their guests with something completely different from what they would normally choose.  Others prefer to stay with something classic and traditional.  Just really think about what you want to look like on your special day.

As far as the “it’s the one” experience, some brides never have that!  We’ve had brides come in for over a year, attend over 4 or 5 trunk shows, and visit our store dozens of times before they decide on the dress.  Just remember to take into consideration the feeling you have when you put on different dresses, or if in the morning you wake up and immediately think of a certain dress.  9 out of 10 times, it’s your perfect dress.  Happy shopping!Gavin Micheals 860 by 2Be Bridal

To Wear or Not To Wear: Pantyhose Dilemma

SpanxHere’s an issue many of our customers have had trouble with . . . .should a woman wear pantyhose with a short dress?  Older women tend to say “Yes!  It looks bad if you don’t!” while our younger customers say “WHAT?! It looks horrible if you do!”  After seeing so many women having this debate, here’s what our staff thinks.

Wear pantyhose if: you’re wearing a closed toe shoe and it’s going to be chilly; wear hose if you want extra coverage or support in the midsection since hose tend to be tighter in the torso

Don’t wear pantyhose if: you’re wearing a strappy/open-toed shoe; the seam on the end of the foot can look unrefined; not wearing hose with a summer/light weight dress is acceptable too

When in doubt: ALWAYS USE YOUR BEST JUDGEMENT! If you want to wear them . .do it!  If not, don’t!  Just remember not to get into an argument over it though!

What are your thoughts on this debate?  We’d love to know what you think!  Give us some comments or feedback!

Items we recommend: Spanx by Sara Blakely – not only do they have body shapers and undergarments, they also have pantyhose too!  Come by the store to check them out!

Wedding Day Hair Formality

One of our most recent brides, Laura Jones, had an interesting question. Does putting your hair in an up-do change the formality of a bride’s wedding day look? What an excellent question! The answer is: it depends. Here’s what I told Laura . . . .

1. If you have a simple dress and want to look more formal, than having an updo can bump up the degree of formality
2. If your dress is extravagant with lots of detail, the dress is actually setting the degree of formality. So, it really doesn’t matter whether your hair is up or down if your dress is elaborate.

Here are some other things to consider . . .

When wearing a strapless dress: hair up or down is great; consider if you want to show off your shoulders or hide them

When wearing a halter: hair up looks fabulous especially with the shape of the halter; a bride’s neck looks long and elegant when combining the neckline the halter makes

When wearing a spaghetti strap/sleeves/dress with more coverage: Hair up or down looks great

WANT THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS? Hair part up/down is the best choice! This way a bride’s hair is up off the face, but shows off the length of a bride’s hair (if length is a feature the bride wants to show). Just remember that having hair down can get a little warm and it could cover the back detail of a dress!

Question From A Customer: Which way do you wear a cummerbund?

Recently, one of our customers. Mr. Mike Kimmel, asked us a question that stumped us. Which way do you wear a cummerbund? Pleats up? or pleats down? Since we pride ourselves in being the experts in formal wear and bridal, we did a little research. We found . . . . pleats up is the way to go! Most people wear them pleats up with a few that insist that pleats down actually looks better. A rule of thumb to remember which way to wear it is that you want to be able to catch crumbs in it! Kind of silly, but I know it might help our customers remember!
