Your Best Girls Deserve to Look Fabulous!

Actress Jessica Biel in a chocolate brown chiffon bridesmaid dress.

Your bridesmaids are your closest friends and family members, right?  Then you need to be sure that being your bridesmaid is a happy experience!

Every bride has a dream for her big day, but here are definitely ways to make your vision and your bridesmaids’ comfort level combine flawlessly!

Step 1: The color should be the bride’s choice. The hue selected for the dresses will set the tone for flowers, groom accessories, invitations, table linens, and the cake. Most girls can wear a flattering shade of most colors and look completely presentable. Neutrals and medium tones are easiest to wear, but pastels are workable in summer months for most complexions.

Step 2: Dress length should be based upon the formality of the event and the bride’s preferences.

Step 3: Dress style is the area where the bride should work with her bridesmaids. If there are just a few, bring them all along on the shopping trip! It is perfectly acceptable for your girls to get different styles of dresses in the same color and fabric! Let the girls pick styles they feel pretty and comfortable wearing! Trust us, your pictures will look fabulous (and your bridesmaids will be SMILING)!

Step 4: Shop in boutiques that offer personalized service! Especially important to your bridesmaids are group discounts (who doesn’t LOVE bargains?), expert alterations, and fun accessories! Be picky!

Step 5: Don’t stress too much about matching shoes! Give your girls simple instructions such as “silver strappy sandals” or “black heels”.  Girls know shoes, and they know what they can handle wearing for an entire day!

Step 6: When things get stressful, remember that being a bridesmaid is supposed to be FUN!

Alicia Keys Rocks “Bridal Goddess” Style : Look and Learn!

Early August featured numerous high-profile celebrity weddings, and of course, amazing bridal gowns! Read on and learn from her flawless style choices!

Alicia Keys chose a  stunning, Grecian-inspired Vera Wang gown in an ivory silk,   for her Mediterranean wedding to mega-producer Swizz Beatz. (Tip for brides: a one-shouldered flowy gown creates an elegant, but exotic vibe, perfect for destination or beach weddings!)

The Grammy winner’s gown featured  jeweled detail on her back shoulder, which perfectly matched her crystal-encrusted flat sandals. (Tip for brides: a dress does not always need a lot of beading to make an impact. Minimal, but perfectly placed beading  can be both beautiful and dramatic. Also- it is ok to wear flats with your gown! As long as your shoes are fabulous, they are appropriate!)

An elegant headband (this was actually a necklace used as a headpiece) and a bouquet of colorful purple calla lillies completed her modern goddess look. (Tip for brides: be creative with your accessories! It is completely on-trend and acceptable to re-purpose your jewelry and other accessories. If you love something, find a way to work it into your overall bridal look. And remember- your flowers do not have to be white! Have fun with color!)

Carrie Underwood: what we can learn from the ultimate fashionista bride!

Photos of Carrie Underwood’s wedding gown are FINALLY emerging (the image above is from People Magazine) and it appears that Carrie chose an amazing gown! Carrie Underwood’s wedding dress was a full chantilly lace and silk organza ball gown, accented with a pink satin ribbon sash. It was designed by Monique Lhuillier. The dress was then transformed into a cocktail dress right after the ceremony to allow for dancing and socializing at the reception.

Carrie focused on two fun bridal fashion concepts on her big day:

1. She included a subtle pop of color in her wedding gown. The soft pink coordinated with the colors of her flowers, decor, and bridesmaid dresses. Brides: do not be afraid of color! If you have a favorite hue, incorporate it into your look through your jewelry, a sash, or even your shoes (brightly colored shoes with a white or ivory wedding gown are a major trend right now!).

2. Carrie also transformed her look after the wedding ceremony ended. Her full ball gown was a perfect choice for the romantic wedding, but she wanted a more relaxed look (cocktail dress) for the reception. Even if you cannot purchase two dresses for your big day, don’t be shy about changing your look for the reception! Even a change in hairstyle will freshen your look and provide some fun and different photos for your wedding album.

Fun With Flats

Love to wear heels, but hate them by the end of the night? A new solution to such a painful problem is the latest trend in shoes: the ballet flat. Sure it may take away some of a woman’s height and may lead to getting a hem, but it definitely relieves some of the pain women may experience. Our store has some new flats in stock in three different colors (black, gold, and silver) to match any dress. The owner of A Formal Affair, Debbie Richards, was caught wearing a sparkly black pair. “They’re just so comfortable!” she says. Even though Debbie wasn’t wearing her flats with a dress, more women should take them into consideration when wearing formal attire. Besides, don’t women take their shoes off anyway by the end of the evening and change into a pair of flats? Why not save some money on heels and invest in a pair of shoes a woman can wear all evening in comfort and style? They can even be worn with other outfits like jeans and a cute blouse or even like how Debbie wore them with a fancy top and a pair of professional trousers.

Latest Trend In Shoes

Our staff gets excited when we see a bride following a trend, especially when it comes to shoes! One of our recent brides, Melissa Delp, wowed us all when she arrived to try on her wedding gown with an amazing pair of hot pink strappy heels.

Her wedding gown is one of our most popular 2Be Bridal styles that is both simple and elegant. When she lifted her gown to show off her trendy heels I had to gasp with delight along with all the other surrounding customers and sales consultants.

I immediately asked, “How did you decide on pink heels?”

I couldn’t believe that a pop of color would add such a chiqness to the traditional take on bridal shoes. They looked so stunning with such a simple dress that I couldn’t contain my excitement.

Melissa calmly smiled and said, “I’ve always loved pink and I just couldn’t get married without wearing hot pink heels to my wedding.”

Ever since that day, if a bride has a specific color she just can’t live without, I recommend dying a pair of shoes so that wedding guests can catch a glimpse of a bride’s personal style. For some brides that aren’t as fashion forward as our Melissa Delp, I usually recommend dying a shoe a shade of blue to carry on the tradition of “something blue” or even purchasing a shoe that’s gold or silver to add a special touch to finish off a bridal look. For those brides that choose a more traditional shoe of ivory or white, I always make sure to let them know to incorporate their own personal style somewhere else in the details of the wedding. Making sure a wedding day reflects the style of a bride and groom is extremely important, even if the bride doesn’t express it with a personalized pair of shoes!

Congratulations Melissa! We Love You!

Shoes and Undergarments: No Procrastination Allowed!

As a bride, you have the dress, the accessories, and even the bridesmaid dresses. Some other important items that many brides tend to put off till the last minute are shoes and undergarments. Many brides don’t realize that just like how a wedding dress is the most important dress a bride will ever wear, shoes and undergarments are some of the most essential pieces to a bridal ensemble!

As a sales consultant, I see so many brides struggle with these items mainly because of the following:

1. Brides don’t think shoes and undergarments are that important in comparison to the hundreds of other items on their massive and overwhelming lists of things they need to complete

2. They don’t realize that they will need these items to attend their first wedding gown fitting and all the other alterations appointments that follow

3. It can become time consuming choosing the perfect shoes and undergarments (in many cases, time brides just don’t have!)

4. When brides find the perfect undergarments and shoes, many times the items need to be special ordered to ensure proper size, style, and color which sometimes puts brides on an even tighter time crunch! It can take up to a month for special orders and sometimes even longer!

Don’t panic! That is why it is good to ask your trusty sales consultant for help and advice! Who better to ask than the women that are the experts and that have helped hundreds of brides through the entire wedding process? Not only can they give you recommendations on heel height, style of shoes, long line bras and crinolines that best suits you and your wedding, but they will also tell you the truth about what is comfortable and practical. Rest assured that your sales consultant will also keep you on track if anything needs to be ordered and will help guide you through the ordering process.

Whatever you do, don’t wait! As soon as you find your perfect dress immediately begin to think about other essentials you’ll need to complete your look. Please always remember that your sales consultant is there to be your resource every step of the way!
